IELTS Academic or General Training?

IELTS Academic

IELTS Academic is for those who are looking to study at a university or college, or join a professional association where English is a prerequisite. Some organisations may even accept both versions of IELTS. If you are unsure of which version to take, you should check with your organisation directly to see what version of IELTS they accept.

IELTS General Training

The IELTS General Training test is typically taken by those who wish to move to Canada for work. It is accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s numerous immigration programs, such as Express Entry.

Basics of Canada Student Visa International students who want to pursue higher education in Canada must apply for a study permit. A Study Permit is a document that is issued by Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that allows a foreign national to study in Canada for a limited duration of time.

What’s included in the four sections of the IELTS test?

IELTS Listening Section

The Listening section takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and includes 40 questions. There are four sections in total and the questions are split evenly across the sections, so there will be 10 questions to answer in each section

IELTS Reading Section

You are given approximately 60 minutes to complete the Reading section of the exam, during which time you will be asked 40 questions about the texts presented in front of you.

IELTS Writing Section

You will also have approximately 60 minutes to complete the Writing section of your test. During this time, you will be given two tasks to complete.

IELTS Speaking Section

The Speaking section is completed face to face, and one-on-one with an examiner. It lasts for approximately 11-14 minutes and has three parts to complete in that time.
